Wow! The King's Singers! They come from the UK! I went to this A cappella concert last night! That means they do not use any instruments but just their vocal chords to sing different kinds of songs from jazz songs to Broadway favourites! The King's Singers consist of 6 members!
This year is their 40th anniversary and they travel everywhere to places like Taiwan, the Mainland and Korea to perform their wonderful music! I was impressed by one of the singers called Paul Phoenix as his voice is soooooo perfect and he always sings the melody. Stephen Connolly is a comedian! He thinks that music and singing have been a gift in his life and it is a pleasure for him to give back and bring joy to all the people around him.
The song I like most from last night's concert is "All I Ask of You" from the "Phantom of the Opera"! It's one of my favourites! Here's the lyrics:
All I Ask of You
RAOUL
No more talk of darkness,
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
my words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom,
let daylight dry your tears.
I'm here with you, beside you,
to guard you and to guide you...
CHRISTINE
Say you love me every waking moment,
turn my head with talk of summertime...
Say you need me with you now and always...
Promise me that all you say is true
that's all I ask of you
RAOUL
Let me be your shelter
let me be your light
You're safe, No one will find you
your fears are far behind you...
CHRISTINE
All I want is freedom,
a world with no more night
and you, always beside me, to hold me and to hide me...
RAOUL
Then say you'll share with me
one love, one lifetime
let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you...
anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that's all I ask of you...
CHRISTINE
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime...
say the word and I will follow you...
Share each day with me,
each night, each morning...
Say you love me...
RAOUL
You know I do...
BOTH
Love me - that's all I ask of you
Anywhere you go let me go too
Love me - that's all I ask of you...
I listened very attentively as I sat in the balcony and I did not want to miss any parts of this romantic song! Each time when they sang until the end of a song, the last note was sung so perfectly that I think they really deserve our applause! In the "encore" session, guess what? They sang the Canton-pop "上海灘" that was sung by 葉麗儀 in the past. Of course, everyone's touched by their efforts! Sometimes I will wonder, how can human voices be so melodious and harmonious!
I highly recommend the King's Singers to all of you!
