Films

Well, I am a big fan of an actor.........  Do you know who he is???

He is Leonardo DiCaprio! Of course I started watching his films long time ago like Titanic and Romeo and Juliet.

Shutter Island

I love the story so much.  It is so gripping, enthralling and mysterious.  A marshall called Teddy went to an island with Chuck to investigate the missing of Rachel Solando.  At the same time, he has several dreams of his wife telling him to look for a prisoner called Andrew Laeddis.  At the end, Teddy is actually Andrew Laeddis and he is undergoing a therapy organised by Dr Cawley and Dr Sheehan.  Also, the truth is, his wife drowns their kids in the lake and he kills his wife as well.

Many of the scenes are well directed like the encounters of Andrew and his wife, the scenes of the dead bodies of WWII and his fantasy of his meeting with Rachel in the cave.  I think Teddy is a man of integrity as he tries to look for his missing friend, Chuck, by going to the lighthouse.

As for the ending, Andrew remembers all his deeds but he still wants to take the operation by admitting that he is Teddy again, not Andrew.  He asks Chuck whether it is worse to live as a monster or die as a good man.

Inception

Do you remember your dreams?  Have you ever dreamed that you are dreaming?  Do you have any secrets to look for in your dreams? Can you control your dreams?  Do you know that you are dreaming in your dreams? I have never thought of dreams of different levels. It is such an exciting and stimulating idea to me!

As our dreams show our subconscious mind like our fears and our hopes. It is something very mystic to me.  Once I tried to tell myself to do whatever I want if I knew that I was dreaming.  I succeeded!   They also show if we are under pressure or not.  If you are chased by the others in your dreams, you might be under great stress.  I often dreamed that I was late for work!  Poor me.

It is an amazing sci-fic film directed by Christopher Nolan (the director of The Dark Knight).  I like the part where the girl receives training on how to construct her dreams.  The different areas and streets and people can be moved freely in her dreams.  It requires lots of our imagination.

Also, in some of the dreams, there is zero gravity and they do not follow the law of physics.  As for the ending, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish whether you are dreaming or you are awake!

DiCaprio did a great job in these two films and I look forward to his great films in the future!

Films

Recently, I watched several blockbusters!!  I think they are great films.  If you have a chance, do not hesitate to watch the dvds!!

The Kite Runner

It is a film about two boys, Amir and Hassan, in Afghanistan.  They rely on each other as good friends.  Hassan is the best kite runner of Amir. After Amir cuts others' kites, Hassan can easily run after the kites and get them for him.  He says, "for you, a thousand times over".  This reminds me of the film called Slumdog Millionnaire as it is also a story of two boys.

In this film, Amir's father and Hassan are the typical role models of our society.  Amir's father stands up for justice and he is never afraid of the soldiers while he is escaping. This contrasts with the cowardice of the main character, Amir, who always shows his timid disposition in the story.  He once lives luxuriously at Afghanistan but he is willing to work at the gas station and the market later when he goes to Fremont, California.  Hassan is a man of integrity.  He is brave to protect Amir and never gives up on the kite he runs for Amir.  He is murdered because he is asked by the Taliban to leave the house once owned by Amir's father. When he is falsely accused by Amir as the thief, he confesses.

There is a great change of the main character, Amir, in the story.  Once he knows that Hassan is his brother, he is brave enough to go to an orphanage at a dangerous place to take Hassan's son back with him to California.  He also runs the kites for Sohrab, Hassan's son, and says "for you, a thousand times over".  Also, he achieves his ambition to be a writer at the end because of the encouragement of his father.   I also thought of becoming a writer when I was young but I know it is something very difficult to accomplish. I think this is a good film, do not miss the chance to watch it.

Up in the Air

The main character, Ryan Bingham (acted by George Clooney), is flying around the world every day to sack people in different kinds of companies and his target is to reach 10 million miles of flight.  At the end, he can reach his target but he finds that he leads a real empty life.

When he is assigned to take a young girl, Natalie, with him to fire people, she tells him off fiercely because he is not willing to get into a commitment with Alex.  He thinks that it is against his "What's in your backpack" theory.  Later, he is able to convince his sister's groom who gets cold feet on the wedding to marry his sister.

Relationship is something we treasure most in our lives.  In order not to have regrets in your life, be good to your beloved family members and friends NOW.  Tell them how much you love them and cherish their presence.  It is of utmost important in our lives.  One of  the ten commandments is to "respect your parents".  I think God puts someone around you to let you learn a life-long lesson, that is, be good to them no matter what happens, to try to support and encourage them in different ups and downs situations.  So, act NOW!!
